Step 1

  • Schedule a New Patient appointment. Call 252-758-7583 or E-mail.
  • Fill out all required “paper work” online (no need to print the forms yourself).

First Visit

  • An exam is performed. The exam may include orthopedic, muscle, reflex and neurological testing, range of motion and postural analysis and palpation.
  • After the exam Dr. Bret will discuss the goals you have for your health and then determine the need for x-rays.

X-rays

If x-rays are needed then you will be referred to another location where digital x-rays will be taken and given to Dr. Bret to analyze.

New Patient Orientation

Educated patients are usually the healthiest and happiest patients. To help you achieve optimal health, Dr. Bret wants to educate you about your spine and why it needs corrective care. After your first visit and x-rays are taken (if necessary) every patient attends a New Patient Orientation (typically a group setting). This orientation is designed to educate all of our patients about chiropractic, how it pertains to our body’s ability to function and be at its optimal state. Directly after the New Patient Orientation the results of the exam, postural analysis, x-rays and the treatment plan necessary to correct your spine will be discussed separately with each patient.

Treatment

Everyone is different and therefore each care plan may necessitate a different level of care, which can affect the number of visits and cost of care. Regardless, the doctor will make sure that the cost of care will be fully discussed with each patient before treatment begins.

Lifestyle Care

The biggest trend in healthcare is lifestyle or wellness care. You brush and floss your teeth, why not do the same for your spine? Research shows you save more money in the long run if you do things to keep your body well instead of treat it after it has become injured, sick or ill. By improving your body’s ability to heal and function with chiropractic you can prevent yourself from getting injured, having surgery or taking drugs. This is not only a healthier and more preferable option but it can also save thousands of dollars and probably more than a few tears by keeping your spine limber, strong, and safe with postural correcting adjustments. In comparison, research shows that chiropractic costs less and is more effective and far safer than drugs and surgery and has longer lasting effects (The study referenced was done by the California Medical Assn on 2 million subjects). I Heart My Spine examines diet, exercise, posture, lifestyle, and stress levels as an important part of your health and wellness. We know no two patients are the same, and we offer numerous methods of helping you to improve your health. Recommended Wellness Care Studies show that a vertebral joint that is subluxated or splinted with muscle spasm can degenerate within two months if it has no local disc motion. Based on this research, as well as the plentiful amount of other research showing that patients have fewer episodes and need less care overall, this is the recommended choice. Recommended wellness care is done depending on patient need as every body heals at a different rate. Preventing injury and overuse is a top money saving priority for most patients and this choice is what we recommend to a patient who has few to no musculoskeletal health complaints.
